Mark your calendars now for our annual Davis ES Night of the Arts! Stop by the gym between 5:30 and 8:00 Tuesday night to see your child's favorite piece of artwork framed and proudly displayed. Love the frame? Think it would look great hanging in your home? Really love not having to take your child's amazing work of art to an expensive framing shop to preserve it forever? Great news! You can purchase the frame and take it home that night! The cost of $25 includes a small donation that will be used to buy equipment and supplies for the art room to benefit your children during all their years at Davis. So plan to bring your checkbook! Yes, we'll take cash too! Please note: We are unable to take charge cards. Artwork in unpurchased frames will be returned to students at a later date.

And . . . be prepared to be dazzled by our musical entertainment at the Night of the Arts as well! We are excited to announce that our talented Davis Chorus will present a spectacular performance in the Cafeteria as a part of the Night of the Arts. The Chorus will perform immediately following a brief PTA meeting at 6:30 P.M. The chorus program, entitled “Music Through the Ages” will feature music from Bach to Justin Bieber. Don’t miss the singing and dancing extravaganza featuring our fourth and fifth grade chorus students!

Read Across America

So this past week we had an awesome assembly in the gym celebrating Read Across America. We even made a giant cake. Take a look at one of the ingredients:

February already? Well we’ve been pretty busy. We tackled our juggling unit for the K-2^nd grades. We really work a lot on 2 scarf patterns (using scarves instead of bean bags). A few of the 2^nd graders were able to get some true 3 scarf patterns going. It was a lot of fun to see!

We also got to squeeze in a couple weeks of jump rope. We have quite a few great jumpers and we still have a few that are so very close.

For the 3-5^th grades- We are wrapping up our basketball unit. We got to go through many of the basic skills and even got a chance to put our skills into action in some modified games. I’ve been very impressed with the way these 3^rd-5^th graders have been working together. It’s really great to see!!

On a different note, please read below:

The Fire Marshall has begun writing Fire Lane parking violations on school parking. A number of people have already received citations. The Fire Marshall will continue writing these citations throughout the county this school year. Please remind parents/staff that if they park in a fire lane (a curb that is painted red) they risk being ticketed.

Still can't believe it's 2012. Well up first for us is:
K-2: Juggling- we'll be learning the patterns with scarves, and depending on how the students do...we may end up moving to other things. Don't be surprised if your child comes home and asks to juggle plastic grocery store bags. They actually work well- the more they are open the slower they fall.
3-5: Basketball (skills and modified games)- since Bball season is in full swing now (both college and NBA) we will be putting some of our skills to the test too. We will be working on all the basic skills and will introduce the students to some great shooting games.

The Holiday Break

I still can't believe it's already here! For the last couple weeks in PE we've been working on:

K-2: Throwing and catching. These last few days before the break are perfect for some of our large group throwing games. We've been able to play some Star Wars and some Pin-Knock Down- these are two favorites for this age group!

3-5: Floor Hockey. These last couple of days we've finally gotten into some full games (still slightly modified of course). The students are really having a great time. Just tell them to watch out for the high stick penalty!!

When we get back in January here is what you can expect during that first 9 weeks:
Basketball (3-5)
Juggling (k-2)
Jump rope (all)
Gymnastics (all)
Dance (all)
Volleyball (all.....and my favorite unit!!)

I'm sure we will have some fun, large group games worked in there as well, perhaps between some units.

December Already??

Wow, thing have been flying by this year. I can't believe we'll be out of school for the holidays soon.

I was going to label this post "Football??", but thanks to all the crazy weather we've been having I didn't bother. The 4th and 5th graders have been trying to get outside to finish their Flag Football unit, but the weather just has not been cooperating. Too cold one day. Too wet the next. Luckily we were able to get the classes out yesterday, but now today...rain again.

So we are slowly jumping in to our next unit- floor hockey! This should be a fun one. This is the first year where we have enough sticks for every student in class to have their own. We started yesterday with 3rd grade. It went perfect. I guess since the rain set in today, the 4th and 5th graders will try to match the success the 3rd graders had.

As for K-2- we are backing up for a skills review. We are going to be working on the basics of throwing and catching. Remember...step with the opposite foot!!

Shoes!!

Parents please help your students to remember their PE shoes on PE days!! We have had quite an issue this year with students "forgetting" their PE shoes.

The PE rotation is fairly simple- your child will have PE on either Monday & Wednesday OR on Tuesday & Thursday. The only semi-confusing part is they will have PE on alternating Fridays. So if they have PE one Friday they will not have PE on the next Friday!

Start of the year update!!

Great start to the year so far. It’s been a little hectic…but we’ve gotten a lot done. Here are some of the things we’ve done so far this year:

1- Got a new gym floor!!!!!

2- Practiced Fire drills and severe weather drills

3- Did Fitness Gram pre-tests

4- Taught warm up walls

a. Taught the new students and all of kindergarten the routines we use in the gym

b. Gave the kindergartners plenty of extra time to learn all the new things going on!

c. Routines for going outside

5- Reviewed and introduced various large group and “rainy day” activities

6- Learned all sorts of skills

a. Throwing

b. Catching

c. Kicking

d. Fleeing, chasing and dodging

7- Coach Jones won his 3^rd State Championship in a row in volleyball….remember I coach at Pope High School.

8- Had fitness Friday games

9- Introduced basic basketball skills

10- Introduced basic football skills

11- Participated in Red Ribbon Week

Now that it’s beginning to get cooler outside….please everyone remember your jackets!! Also, remember to TAKE YOUR JACKET WITH YOU WHEN YOU LEAVE!! We have already donated several jackets to goodwill this year. We spent over a week trying to find the students all the jackets belonged to…but we just couldn’t find all the homes for all the jackets!! This happens each year when the weather starts to change, but this year seems to have brought even more than in years past!!

April/May Update!!

First off I have to say…WOW!! Our CF fundraiser was AWESOME!! This is our 3^rd year raising funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and I am proud to say- as a school we raised $6,000 to help in the CF battle!! I was blown away. At the beginning of this fundraiser I was a little worried. I wasn’t sure how much money we would be able to raise, but man…did the kids come through or what?!?!

Next up- Field Day!!

I really think this event sneaks up on all of us each year. I know I sent some information home with the kids a couple weeks ago, but just in case you missed it here is what we’ve got on the calendar:

May 4^th- Field Day for K, 1^st and 2^nd Grades

May 5^th- Field Day for 3^rdand 4^th Grades

May 6^th- Field Day for 5^th Grade

Please be sure to dress your child appropriately on those days!! Check the weather. If it’s supposed to be a bright and sunny day (which we hope it is) please don’t forget: sunscreen (before your child leaves for school), tennis shoes, and comfortable clothing!

Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser

During the week of March 28- April 1 Davis Elementary will be participating in a series of fundraisers to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF).

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited chronic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system of about 30,000 children and adults in the United States (70,000 worldwide). A defective gene and its protein product cause the body to produce unusually thick, sticky mucus that: clogs the lungs and leads to life-threatening lung infections; and obstructs the pancreas and stops natural enzymes from helping the body break down and absorb food.

During CF Week we will be running 4 fundraisers-

1.) We will be selling CF Awareness Bracelets for $2 every morning outside the gym

2.) We will be selling hat passes for $1 on Tuesday and Thursday outside the gym

3.) We will be participating in a Jar Wars competition. Jar Wars is a class vs class competition to see who can bring in the most of a certain denomination of money for their class’s CF Jar. The schedule for Jar Wars is as follows- Monday= pennies, Tuesday= nickels, Wednesday= dimes, Thursday= quarters, and Friday= dollars (and checks, to be made out to The CFF)

4.) Wednesday, March 30^th visit Cloud 9 Frozen Yogurt and Cupcakes (1195 Woodstock Road, Roswell), and tell them you are from Davis Elementary. If you do 10% of your purchase will go to our CFF fundraiser.

All Money raised will go to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Please help out in any way you can! We will also be searching for volunteers to help count the money collected each day. To volunteer or for more information please contact Coach Jones via email: bryan.jones@cobbk12.org

February Update!

What a wild start to 2011. Who would have guessed snow would shut the northern half of the state down for a week! Needless to say this has thrown a little wrench in the PE plans for this 9 weeks, but nothing too big.

2^nd- 5^th: We are right in the middle of our volleyball unit…it’s one of my favorites. The students have been learning and practicing the forearm pass (bump) and the overhead pass (set). This week we hope to put those skills to use in some modified volleyball games. Time to get the nets out!

K and 1^st: We are going back for a skills review. Last week we reviewed throwing (over and under hand) and catching. The students are really doing pretty well with it. The Kindergarten students are finally getting that “step with the opposite foot” thing!

Coming up next:

- Gymnastics (all grades)

- Dance (all grades)

Other things on the horizon:

March 28- April 1 is going to be our PE service project. We will be raising money school wide for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). This will be the third time we’ve participated in the Cure Finders program with the CFF. For those new parents….we’ve won it for the last two years in a row. I would REALLY love to make this three in a row!! More information is coming soon on this one! Please be on the lookout. We will be searching for volunteers to help count change for Jar Wars. Field Day!!!

Our field day dates are set. We will be splitting the grades up just like we have the last several years. On Wednesday May 4^th will be K-2. 3^rd and 4^th grades will be on Thursday May 5^th. We will wrap up field day with the 5^th graders having their own day on Friday May 6^th. We will for sure be seeking volunteers for these days as well! And yes, you can volunteer on your child’s day. More information to come on this as well!!

What a great break! Time to get back to work in PE. Here is what we have on tap for this up coming 9 weeks:

Starting with-
k-2: Jump Rope
3-5: finishing up our basketball unit (focusing on shoot games)

This will be followed by (in order): volleyball, gymnastics and dance. We will mix in a few "large group game" days here and there!!

Should be fun! I am going to try to get a few of my players from Pope High School (where I coach) to come over during the school day and do some demos with the kids. Not often elementary kids get to learn from some 2 time state champion volleyball players!! Hopefully the schedules will work out!!

Getting ready for the break!

Well, a lot has gone on in PE since my last post (oops!). We have worked on all sorts of skills and activities. We have been able to get outside a decent amount of time this year, but...as you can tell, it's a little too cold for outside activities now!

Up next we will be hitting our cold weather activities, all of our indoor only units. We will be touching on skills from gymnastics, basketball, jump rope, floor hockey and dance. We are currently in our basketball unit. We have been working on dribbling for the last couple days. The students have been improving each day. Up next we are going to work on shooting and passing.

Opening and Somewhat Random PE Thoughts!

It's that time of the year again, time for fitness testing. Over the next week or two we will be taking all students, 1st - 5th grade, through the Fitness Gram testing.

We will only be keeping scores on the 3rd-5th graders. 1st and 2nd will be participating in the tests, but it's treated more like a "practice." This is done to familiarize them with the different tests so when they get to 3rd grade they'll be good to go.

The Kindergarten classes are being introduced to the gym routines and procedures. We have just wrapped up learning our warm-ups, and most of them are pros at knowing their squad and where to go!

Throughout the 2010-2011 school year Fridays will become "Fitness Fridays." Each activity we do on FF's will be centered around fitness. Our first official FF was today! Our activity today was 4 corner fitness. It went great!! There were a lot of hot and sweaty students leaving the gym!!

It's been a good start to the school year so far!

Cystic Fibrosis Fundraising

Next week (March 29- April 2) we will be running our fundraiser to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). The CFF introduced the program just last year. They call it Cure Finders. Cure Finders has 2 main goals- 1.) Increase Cystic Fibrosis (CF) awareness & 2.) Raise funds for the battle against CF.

If you ever bring up CF in a conversation chances are the person you are talking to will say something like, “I don’t really know much about CF.” It’s a pretty common thing to hear. Well, I have learned a ton about CF over the last 20 months. You see, my wife and I had our 3rd child in July of 2008, our first boy! We named him Bryce. At just 3 weeks of age Bryce was diagnosed with CF. This came as a huge shock to my wife and I. Neither one of us had any family history with CF, come to find out, that’s pretty common. 90% of carriers have no idea they carry the defective gene. The diagnosis forced us to jump head first into the CF world. We have learned a ton over the last 20 months.

There are several places on the internet where you can learn more about CF and the impact it has, but let me warn you- some of the info out there gives worst case scenarios. A good reliable site for information is the CF Foundation's site: www.cff.org

The CFF funds 90% of the 115 accredited research and treatment centers across the country. Without funding from the CFF those centers would be forced to shut their doors. The CFF is an awesome non-profit organization. They put 90 cents from every dollar straight to research and care of CF. I'm not sure how much you guys know about other non-profits, but trust me- that is incredible.

Here at Davis we will be participating in a school wide fundraiser to benefit the CF Foundation. Every penny (literally) we bring in will go straight to the CFF. Below is a quick look at the participation opportunities for the students:

Jar Wars!!
This is a class Vs class competition. Each teacher was given an empty glass jar this week. We will be competing to see which class can raise the most money in their jar throughout the week. We will be challenging the students to bring in a different denomination of money each day of the week:
Monday- Pennies
Tuesday- Nickels
Wednesday- Dimes
Thursday- Quarters
Friday- Dollars (all paper money welcome- including checks made out to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation)

Selling CF Awareness bracelets:
Each morning we will be selling awareness bracelets in the gym for $2.00. Students can buy as many as they'd like. Al money raised will go straight to our school's grand total for the CFF.

Hat Day:
Tuesday and Thursday only- we will be selling hat stickers in the gym for $1.00. If students purchase a hat sticker they will be able to wear their hat throughout the school day! Again, all money raised from hat stickers will go towards our school's total for the CFF.

For those who are new to Davis or have been under a rock- last year we raised the most money out of any school in Georgia. Since we were able to accomplish this feat we won a visit from the CFF's honorary celebrity chair- Chipper Jones. It was a great day. The kids loved it!! We are hoping to win this honor again this year. I'm sure the kids would love a 2nd visit from Chipper!!

Good Start to 2010!!

So the weather has been a little cold for Georgia, but we have been truckin’ right along with our units in PE. This year we have already hit several different units: jump rope, gymnastics, dance, and volleyball.

The dance unit was great. For those who don’t know, we traded PE teachers with Keheley Elementary for a week. Yup, I was shipped off over there to teach their students some volleyball skills and Mrs. Lawson (one of our former PE teachers) got to come over here and teach our classes some dance! Mrs. Lawson really is a dancin’ fool!! The kids had a great time.

We are now finished with our first week of volleyball. The kids are really doing a great job. We’ve spent some time this week working on some basic skills, mainly the forearm pass (bump) and the overhead pass (set). They are really picking it up well. Next week we hope to get the students into some modified games so they can put their newly learned skills to good use!

Just to give you a heads up for future events: our fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is coming up just before our spring break! For those new to Davis- we participated in a state wide fundraiser to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). I was so proud of the support our students gave to the CFF. We were able to raise $6,000 in just one week! We won the state wide competition, and we got a visit from Atlatna Braves 3rd baseman Chipper Jones! This year…we are aiming higher!!! I’d love to be the back to back winner for the state….and get win the Chipper visit again!!! Just keep your eyes open in the coming month for information!

Cold and Rain..

That pretty much describes the weather we've been having! Super cold..maybe a day or two that was decent..and now rain. Well, it hasn't slowed us down in PE. We are still truckin' right along.

When we got back from the break we "jumped" right into our jump-rope unit. It went great! The older students got to try out some new skills/tricks, while the younger students got the much needed reps with their ropes! Let me just tell you, every year it amazes me how well the kids pick up on the jump rope unit. Of course, we still have some who are still working on it, but over all the little ones really stepped it up!

We have now moved on to gymnastics! We are right at the beginning of this one. So, I don't have a lot of news to report, but so far so good! Please help us by reminding your students to make sure they have on socks (the cleaner the better)!! There aren't many who forget, but each class usually produces one or two students who somehow managed to get out of the house missing their socks!!

Last week of 2009!

Just like I started last post- I still can't believe it's December! This year has been moving so fast. Before we know it spring break will be here!

For the last couple weeks we have been focusing on basketball skills. We have been mainly focusing on dribbling and shooting, but now we are getting into a little bit of how the game is played with the older kids. It has been really neat to see the progress from all the students.

I do have a couple of fun days in-store for the classes at the end of the week. I know they are going to be extremely excited to have a couple weeks off! So, we are going to break out some of our favorite large group games on Thursday and Friday, and really let them burn off some energy!!

Holiday time!

I still can't believe we are already in November. It seems like the school year just started! We have been pretty busy since the last post. We covered kicking, introduced some fun tag games, learned new warm-ups, worked on some more throwing and catching, got the older kids into some modified games of flag football, and got the younger ones some work on dribbling!! The best part is the weather hasn't really been messing us up too bad!

As we get into the cooler months of fall please make sure your child has on a jacket in the morning. I know we have been having some awesome afternoons, but the mornings are staying fairly cool. The older grades (5th, 4th, and 3rd) are the first ones out for PE. We are usually starting some type of work outside by 9:00am.

One last thing!! The lost and found- it is crazy. If your child has misplaced a jacket or sweatshirt please stop by the table just outside the gym doors. There are still quite a few items on the table. I believe the unclaimed items will be donated to charity over the week of Thanksgiving!

Floatin' on to the next unit..

What a crazy last couple of days. I hope that everyone was able to be safe and not have too much water damage around the house!

We are moving on to our next unit. We are going to be a couple days behind, but it shouldn't be a problem. This week we are starting kicking. The kids really get into this one. We go over basic skills on how to kick (short distance, long distance, and punts), and with the older kids we get into some soccer and modified soccer games.

Today the weather has been great. A little muggy, but not too bad. So far everyone has done a great job! We told the students about one big similarity between kicking and throwing. See if they can remember!

Up Next..

Well, we got through fitness testing without too many problems. A few students didn't wear the right shoes a couple of times, but over all, it went just fine. I know the students are glad to get it over with, although it does seem like some of them would just like to fitness test all the time.

Kindergarten update-
The little guys and girls are doing just great. They are well accustomed to our warm-ups, their squads, and most any type of transitions between activities. They have surprised me. They are a really good bunch!

Onto everyone-
We have been focusing on throwing and catching. Everyone from kindergarten to 5th grade has been working on this in some way. We have introduced the skills to everyone, and now we are incorporating them into stations and games. The students are throwing everything from bean bags, to onion balls (you can ask them what that is), and even footballs.

Up next for us-
We will be moving along with some more skills work. Once we finish throwing and catching we will jump right on into kicking and then onto striking. We will be visiting these skills additional times through the year as well!

National Standards

Below I am listing the 6 standards set forth by The National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE). Each activity that we do in PE will have some relation to at least one of these standards. Many times, our activities will relate to multiple if not all of them. Here they are:

Standard 1- Demonstrates competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical tasks.

Standard 2- Demonstrates understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

Standard 3- Participates regularly in physical activity.

Standard 4- Achieves and maintains a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Standard 5- Exhibits responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

Standard 6- Values physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.

Parents, please remember- I see your children 2-3 days a week. You see your kids a lot more. Please, stress the importance of physical activity with your children.

Welcome Back!!

What a great start to the school year! Things have been running very smooth these first few days. Hopefully we can keep it up!

Here are some things on the horizon for PE

1.) Reviewing large group games- we like to start with some of our “rainy day” large group games. They really get the kids excited about PE, and it also give us a chance to review the rules and procedures for each activity.

2.) 3rd – 5th grades: Fitness testing! For the last couple of years Cobb County has been using the Fitness Gram Fitness Test to evaluate our students. You can find information on the series of tests at www.fitnessgram.net We will be recording and tracking the scores for the 4th and 5th grades.

K-2nd grades: Intro to fitness/fitness practice. These grade levels will have practice time with the tests just to get them familiar with the different activities. We are not going to be tracking scores.

Catching up...Just in time.

Man, we’ve had a ton going on here at Davis this past month! Everything from Field Day, to fitness testing and fund raising to Chipper Jones! Yes, Just incase your child didn’t tell you- we had a little visit from Atlanta Braves 3rd baseman Chipper Jones.

I won’t go in to all the details of why he came (if you look back one post you will see why). I will just tell you that he was a really great guy, and the kids LOVED the assembly. Chipper spoke to the entire school for a few minutes. He explained his connection to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF), and then he fielded some questions that were submitted ahead of time by some Davis students. After that he posed for a few photos, and then had to head out. He had a game that night at Turner Field!

Well now that you know Chipper came out to visit I guess you can figure out that our school won the CFF fundraiser competition! Our school raised $6,000 for the CFF. I was very impressed. What is even more impressive is that we did it in one week of school, just 5 short days! We had 2 classes that stood out in our fundraiser. They both happen to be 5th grade classes: Mrs. Watson’s class raised $640 and Mrs. Hintz’s class just nudged them out to take the top spot with a total of $652. Both of these classes got to meet Chipper and have their picture taken with him.

Before I go on to the next topic I have to say one thing- Thank you. As most of you know, my son was born in July 2008, and was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) at 3 weeks of age. We got his diagnosis right at the end of the first week of school. It was not an easy thing to hear. Once my wife and I had some time to let it sink in, we both felt like we needed to do our part as CF parents. One of my ideas was to do a fundraiser (to take the place of our normal PE fundraiser for the American Heart Association). I wasn’t quite sure how successful it would be, but I wanted to give it a shot. I never thought we would raise 6,000 dollars in 5 days. I can’t wait to do this again next year…and have Chipper visit us again!

Next topic- Field Day!

Field Days were a blast! I know we ran into a little it of bad weather on the first day, but we made it work! We moved events into empty classrooms all around the school. The K-2 graders seemed to not even know the difference. We did catch a little break in the weather for the 3rd and 4th graders. We were able to get them out side and stick to our normal field day activities. On the morning of 5th grade field day we were a little nervous, but the weather ended up holding out just in time!

I do have to say a HUGE thank you to my parent volunteers who came and helped run events! We really couldn’t do it without you! Hopefully we can get all of you back again next year. I do have to say a VERY special thank you to Mrs. Georges. She really did all the work to make these days happen. A quick bit of background- I was stranded in Orlando FL on a weekend vacation that ended up lasting until Tuesday night at midnight…thanks to some major car trouble! While I was stuck down there Jenny was feverishly working to get things ready for Field Days! So, if you see Mrs. Georges in the hallway tell her thanks for all her hardwork!

Last thing- Fitness Testing

Cystic Fibrosis Fund-Raiser

This year the PE department will be participating in a series of small fundraisers to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). The CFF is dedicated to the fight against Cystic Fibrosis (CF).

CF is a genetic disease that affects the lungs and the digestive system. One out of every 3,900 live births in the U.S. is born with CF. In order for a person to be born with CF both of the parents must carry the recessive gene. One of the problems is there are close to 10 million carriers of the disease, but most people have no idea they are carriers.

There is no cure for CF. In the 1950's when the CFF was first founded a person born with CF was not expected to live to see elementary school. Now, thanks to organizations like the CFF a person with the disease could live into their 30's, 40's and possibly even beyond.

As some of your children may have told you, the reason I have chosen to support the CFF is a reason that is most near and dear to my heart. This past July my wife and I had our 3rd child, Bryce. Three weeks after he was born we received a phone call informing us that his mandatory screening came back positive for CF. We went in later that same week and had Bryce tested. The test came back positive.

As a father of a CF child I feel that it is my duty to support the CF world. Please do what you can to help. During the week of April 6-10th we have a few different activities planned. Here is a break down of each one:

Hat passes-
on Tuesday and Thursday hat passes will be sold for 1 dollar. As long as the students have their hat pass sticker on they will be allowed to wear a hat all day!

CF Awareness Bracelets-
Each morning we will be selling blue rubber bracelets to show our support. The bracelets will be sold for 2 dollars each.

JAR WARS!!-
This is a class versus class competition. We are going to challenge each class to bring in different denominations of money each day. The class who raises the most money by the end of the week wins the competition! The winning class will receive a prize...something like a pizza party paid for by me (Coach Jones). The details of the prize are still being nailed down.
Here is the schedule for JAR WARS!
Monday- bring in as many pennies as possible
Tuesday- bring in nickels
Wednesday- bring in dimes
Thursday- bring in quarters
Friday- bring in dollars

All money raised will go straight to the CFF where it will be put to work battling CF.

There is one more thing about our fundraiser! There are many schools across the state of Georgia who will be raising money to help fight CF. That is a whole lot of people supporting Cystic Fibrosis. One of them in particular is Chipper Jones, of the Atlanta Braves. Chipper has signed on as the state's "Celebrity Chair" for the CFF, and will be visiting the school who raises the most money. Let's see if we can get him to come by Davis!

Spring at last..

It has been a little while since our last post. We just wrapped up our volleyball unit. It was awesome. We spent a couple days on some of the "striking skills" (overhead pass and forearm pass), and then we were able to get into some modified games. All the grade levels really got into the games, and they did an outstanding job working with their team mates.

Before that we flew through a decent number of other units- Dance, Jump Rope, and gymnastics. Once again, the Davis students did excellent in all three of these units. The dance unit was a nice surprise- Mrs. Lawson, who is the PE teacher at Keheley and former teacher here, came back for a surprise visit. She taught us some interesting dances! The students had a great time with her.

Up next in the world of PE- 4th and 5th graders are starting up Lacrosse. K-3rd graders are taking a little bit of time to review kicking, and get into some games that incorporate our skills!

We have a couple really big things to get some information out for-

1.) Field Day! Look for some info soon. Once again we will be looking for parent volunteers. With out you guys there is no way field day would be the success it has been over the last couple years!

2.) This one is especially important to me- we are going to be doing a fundraiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). All proceeds raised will go straight to the CFF and will be used for research, care, and treatment of those living with CF. U, N, S, O..........P?

As many of you know, this year, the K-2nd graders are using a new report card. It is a Standards-Based report card. It links the scored given to a more direct set of standards. I understand why the person who came up with it did…but man it sure caused some confusion the first time it was used.

I am going to take a second and explain this new report card, which is currently only used for Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grades. 3rd, 4th and 5th your report card is just like it always was, for now- get ready cause it is going to change over the next couple years. OK, so here we go:

In the past (and currently for 3rd – 5th) we have used 2 grades for PE. The first grade was a conduct grade and the second was a participation grade. In each of those two categories, your child could get one of 4 scores: U- unsatisfactory, N- needs improvement, S- satisfactory, and finally O- outstanding. Seems easy enough right? I thought so too.

The new Standards-Based report card uses a different grading system. The Standards-Based report card, for PE, splits our child’s grade into 3 categories. Two of these categories are graded using the same scale: The Categories of “Demonstrates basic manipulative skills” and “Demonstrates and identifies basic locomotor skills” are scored on a 1-3 scale. Here is the official breakdown of the point values:

1- Limited or minimum progress toward meeting the standard
2- Progressing toward the standard
3- Consistent and successful progress toward meeting the standard

* If one of your child’s boxes is greyed out, or crossed out, and contains no score- this simply means that skill is not being assessed this 9 weeks.

The 3rd category on the new report card is “Learning Skills & Behaviors.” This is more of a conduct grade. This portion of the report card is assessed every 9 weeks. The possible scores are:
N- needs improvement (student does not display skills and behaviors that lead to success)
P- progressing (student is progressing; displays appropriate learning skills and behaviors most of the time)
S- successful (student displays appropriate learner skills and behaviors)

Man, the first half of this year has flown by! I can't believe 2008 is almost over. We were able to get some pretty cool stuff squeezed into the first half of this year, but just wait...we have a ton more to do in 2009. Here is what we are looking at when we get back from the break!

-Volleyball (my personal favorite!)

We even have a little surprise instructor who is going to help us out for part of our dance unit! I can't tell you who it is, but I can say- we are glad to have her back...even if it is just for a week!!

Getting Ready for the Break

Basketball has been going awesome! We are getting ready to take a couple weeks off for the Holiday break. So, we ill be slowing things down a little- a little less skill work and a little more games!

I am very impressed with how well ALL of the grades did with our Basketball unit. The really awesome part is we had a guest speaker come in and talk to the entire school this past Wednesday- he used basketball to get his point across! Now, I would like to say that I planned it all out, but...i can't. It was just a really cool coincidence. His performance was called "Totally Courageous Basketball." He talked about setting goals and practicing to reach your goals!

We are moving away from fitness, well sort of. We always have some bit of fitness going on each day, but we are moving into basketball. I figured it would be a good time to jump into the game since all the basketball is starting up now- high school, college, and NBA.

We are going to break our basketball unit into three main focuses- dribbling, passing, and shooting. 1st will be dribbling. We actually started this Monday. Ask your child (3-5) how long they survived in knockout. The little guys and girls (K-2) worked on some basic dribbling skills. We were even able to go over one basic strategy concept with 1st and 2nd- keeping the ball away from other people while dribbling. They picked it up great!

Coming up on the horizon next for us will be passing and then on to everyone’s favorite- shooting. All the kids are doing a great job! Thanks to the school/PTA for making sure we have enough equipment. It is so very nice to be able to work on dribbling and have a ball for every student in PE (one that actually holds air). We are getting to cover a ton!

What have we been doing in October?

3rd – 5th : Fitness is finally over. We had a couple weeks of testing…with a few games mixed in of course, but we got it done. We have fitness scores for every 3rd-5th grader recorded and ready to go. We plan on re-administering the test late in the school year to see how much improvement your students have made.

K- 2nd : Fitness was a little different. We introduced how to the tests, but we just practiced each test once or twice…just to familiarize the students with them. They did a pretty good job! The rest of the time we got to have a little fun. We worked on some locomotor skills and even squeezed in a few large group games just for fun!

We are now on to striking for grades 2- 5. We started this week with some fun tennis relays and games. We will be trying to use striking in as many different games/activities as we can over the next couple weeks.

As for the little ones (K & 1), we are going to work on locomotor skills for a little while longer, but we are also taking a day or two at a time to get some good skills work in on throwing and catching.

Time for the Fitness Gram!

Last week we introduced all the Fitness Gram fitness tests to the 1st – 5th graders. The kindergarten students got a peek at a few of them, but not the whole array of tests. This week- it is time to do them for real.

Each grade level 1st – 5th will be tested, however, only the 4th and 5th graders will have their scores recorded and tracked. The 1st-3rd graders will perform the tests only. We will discuss our scores, and talk about the importance of trying to improve our fitness.

As for the little guys and gals- kindergarten will be heading into the next phase of our basic skills review. We will be introducing the boys and girls to kicking. We will break down the skill into a few simple steps, and allow them to practice their kicking! Once they have gotten a day or two of practice we will play a kicking game to help reinforce their skills work!

Sorry everyone, I was trying to post this last week, but accidentaly hit the save button instead of the publish button. A little late but here was last weeks blog entry:

So, we are now finished with our basic skills review for 1st- 5th. Those guys and girls did a great job. We were able to hit the basics on- throwing and catching, kicking (long and short distances), and striking (with long and short handled implements).

This week we have started…..Fitness Testing! For right now we are introducing all the tests, and allowing the students to have a practice run or two. Next week we will start recording scores! As last year, we will be using the Fitness Gram Fitness Tests in our classes. They have a web site if you care to check it out: www.fitnessgram.net

The kindergarten classes finished up throwing and catching last week. We are going to be taking a small break in our basic skills intro to do a little fitness of our own. We are not testing the kindergarteners, but we are introducing them to the tests. Getting into the flow of things!

Oops! I am a little late with this post. Sorry! We have been doing some awesome things in PE. The 1st -5th graders have been working through our skills review unit. We finished throwing and catching the first week, and we moved into kicking last week.

In our kicking unit we covered the short distance kick, long distance kick, and the punt. We did run into a little rain last week, and couldn’t get outside, so we are spilling the kicking over into this week. The weather this week has been great! 2-5th have been out almost every day!

Kindergarten- we are now masters of the warm-up walls! These guys and girls do their warm ups better than some of the bigger kids…well, most of the time! This week we got to dive into our first skill based lessons! We have been working on throwing and catching. Man, these little ones are doing great! We spent a little bit of time working on how to treat PE equipment, and now when you watch, it’s as if they have been in PE for weeks and weeks. Oh, wait….they have been in PE for a few weeks huh? I still can’t believe it’s September!

Next week we will be moving on to a new skill- striking! Should be a good time. We will be getting out all sorts of striking implements- both long handle and short handle. The Kindergarten will work on throwing and catching a little longer (I have some fun games we get to play next week that really emphasize those skills).

2008-2009 Has Begun!!!

Welcome back everyone! I apologize for my first post coming in the second week of school, but man, we sure have been busy! This year is starting off strong. Last week we got our squads ready, introduced warm-up walls, and had some time for a few fun games! This week- we are getting down to business. The 1st – 5th graders have just started their first unit. I really like to start things of with what I call a basic skills review.

The basic skills unit takes all of the main “sport skills” and breaks them down. We will introduce a skill, practice it, and then put it into use in some sort of game. Here is our prospective schedule for basic skills:
Week 1: Throwing and Catching
Week 2: Kicking and punting
Week 3: Striking

Ask your student what the three keys for throwing are. Then see if they can remember the 3 keys of catching!

Kindergarten-
The kindergarten guys and girls have been taking it a little slow. It takes them a little while to get used to our PE procedures…and to remember what squad (team) they are on. Does your little one know their squad? Now that we are in week 2 we are moving on to locomotor skills- skipping, jumping, hopping, walking, galloping, sliding, and running! They are having a blast!

Volleyball!!

For those of you who don't know, volleyball is my favorite sport! I love it. I have been playing and coaching this fine game for 16+ years. I currently am the Head Coach at Pope High School. As you can tell I get excited when it's time for a little volleyball at Davis!

Over the last couple weeks you child has been introduced to the forearm pass, the over head pass, the spike, and even some on the court strategy!

Well, this year we gave the kids a special treat. We had it cleared through our administration as well as Pope's- We had a few guest speakers today. I was able to get 6 of my senior players from Pope to come out and help with the PE classes. I really think the kids had a great time, and I know they all learned a lot more about the game!

As your child what he/she thought of the guests!

Good News...Bad News

I have a little piece of good news/bad news for you. I will give you the bad news first- due to our projected enrollment being lower for the 2008-2009 school year we have lost Mrs. Lawson's 3/4 day PE position. We are going to miss not having her here next year. She was/is a great asset to have in the PE program. I know everyone will miss her next year...especially during the dance units!! Mrs. Lawson is a dancing fool!!

Now for the good news- Just last week Mrs. Lawson received the word that she will be the new Physical Education teacher at Keheley Elementary, just around the corner from us! I know she is sad to leave our Davis family, but at the same time she is very excited for the opportunity to teach at Keheley!

We will miss you Mrs. Lawson!

End of February Update!

First off, I would like to thank everyone who donated money to The American Heart Association through the Jump Rope for Heart Program. I know that there are many fund raisers throughout a school year. I thank you for supporting The American Heart Association.

We ended up collecting $9,214 for The American Heart Association!! That is AWESOME!!

We have since moved to our next unit in PE….Gymnastics!! This is always one of my favorite units because you can really see the progress the students make just after a few lessons! A few of the kids start off with the, “Aw, not gymnastics!” attitude, but once we get going they all have a great time.

Throughout this unit, the younger grades are introduced to some basic balances, moving skills, and flexibility exercises. The older grades get to move a little deeper into the skills, learning different variations of each. We try to show both grade levels how skills learned in gymnastics can tie into general fitness and even some other specific sports.

Below are just a few of the Standards we cover through this units are:

PE.3.6.3 Locomotor and Nonlocomotor Skills The learner will be able to identify and demonstrate mature locomotor and nonlocomotor skills with and without equipment and apparatus.

PE.3.8.2 Cooperation The learner will be able to demonstrate the ability to work successfully alone, with a partner, and with a small group.

PE.3.6.2 Educational Gymnastics The learner will be able to refine sequential stunts, tumbling, and balance patterns.

PS3: MOVEMENT PROFICIENCY The learner will be able to demonstrate competency in many movement forms and proficiency in a few movement forms.

PS4: MOVEMENT CONCEPTS AND PRINCIPLES The learner will be able to apply movement concepts and principles to the learning and development of motor skills.

Jump Rope for Heart

The beginning of this week marked the start of our Jump Rope unit. Each year, as we are jumping rope in PE, we as a school also participate in Jump Rope for Heart (JRFH). JRFH is a program run by the American Heart Association. Your child should have brought an envelope home sometime over the last couple days. Please read over the information, and help your child raise money. All money raised will go straight to the American Heart Association's fight against heart disease!!

Last year Davis Elementary raised just under $10,000 for the American Heart Association. This year our goal is to get above $14,000!! I know it is a monster goal, but I know it can be done!!

The DJ told us after it was all over, "This group is the most well behaved group of kids I have ever worked with!" That is incredible. The kids really represented Davis well!

No, we aren't playing it at Davis in PE, but I just got word the Northeast Cobb YMCA is about to start up their Winter/Spring Youth Coed In-line Hockey League. Hockey is an awesome physical activity! Talk about a work out. If you are interested the contact information is listed below!

Season: February 1 through May 16, 2008 (no games Spring Break week) This league offers two weeks of preliminary scrimmaging, 11 weeks of game play with two weeks of playoffs. Plus a mid-season competition fun night! New players to the league and players wishing to “skate up” must be evaluated. Full equipment is required for all players, see below.

The PE Dept

Happy Holidays!

Well, it is just before the break. We have been busy doing all sorts of stuff. We just wrapped up our basketball unit. I thought it went pretty good. We were able to cover some solid basic skills. We also mixed in a few semi competitive games here and there. Dribble tag was a big hit, as well as all of our shooting games.

This week we are taking some time for some large group activities. We are trying to burn off a little of this newly found holiday energy, but it's tough. These guys and girls are sure pumped up for the break!

When we get back we will be jumping head first into our dance and rhythms unit. It should be a fun one. We will be teaching your little ones all sorts of dances and movement activities! After all, we have to get them ready for the Sock Hop!! Yes, the Sock Hop. It will take place January 31st during school hours! It should be a blast!! We will most likely be looking for some parent volunteers to help out. If you are interested shoot one of us an e-mail!

Just after Thanksgiving!

Just 3 weeks until the holiday break! This past week we started up a new unit with all grade levels- Basketball!! So far this unit has been a ton of fun. The kids always love this unit. Obviously, are adjusting the content to be age appropriate for each grade level. We are going to try to keep it simple:

1- Dribbling
2- Passing
3- shooting
4- some basic strategy (for the older students)

We even invented our very own shooting game. The 4th and 5th graders have tried it...and they all seem to love it. Ask them about it. Ask them how in the world do you incorporate decks of playing cards into shooting basketballs. It is a blast!

Just Before Thanksgiving...

Fitness testing is finally over, and now we are moving on. We gave the students a couple of days of fun large group games before starting up our next units. Up next is....well, some different things depending on what grade you child is in.

K & 1st Grade:

We are continuing with basic skills. We are working on striking. We have been working with tennis rackets, hockey sticks, and wiffle ball bats. The kids have really been doing some great work. We have been doing some small group/station work, and the students are really showing some great improvement in their skill!

2nd & 3rd Grade:

I know that fitness testing is over, but fitness never stops. We have been going through a series of fitness mini-units. Mrs. Lawson took us through 2 days of yoga! It was really cool. The kids really seemed to like it. Next up I am in the process of taking the kids through some dynamic movement exercises. Ask them to show you the Frankenstein or the knee hug. They are really having a good time with it!

Our next mini unit is going to be tae bo. Although, we are waiting for our tae bo for kids video to come in! We ordered it about 12-13 days ago. Hopefully it will come in in time. If not we will save that for after the Thanksgiving break!

4th & 5th Grade:

Everybody's favorite...Flag Football!! Of course we modified the game a bit, but the 4th and 5th graders are really enjoying themselves! We are playing in small teams (6-7 players) so they are able to get a bunch of play in!

Wrapping up fitness testing

We have been finishing up our fitness testing over these last few days. We were able to test all the 2nd -5th graders on the following fitness tests:

Sit and Reach
Pacer
Curl-ups (abdominal crunches)
Pull-ups (or if they weren’t able to perform a pull up they could do a flexed arm hang)
Trunk lift

Since the students have been working so hard on their fitness tests we have decided to let them have a little fun for a few days. Over the next few days in PE we will be playing some large group games. Now, these large group games are a blast for the students, but while they are playing they are reinforcing many different PE concepts through their play.

As for the K & 1 students- they have been steadily working on our basic skills of throwing, catching, and kicking. Up next is striking! That should be a ton of fun. We will be working with everything from hockey sticks to tennis racquets!

Getting Ready for Fitness!

Sorry for missing a couple of posts. We have been doing some awesome things in PE over the last few weeks.

2-5th grade:
- Kicking
-Punt, Pass & Kick Competition
- Fitness testing introduction
- Fitness Testing

K & 1:
- Locomotor skills
- Learning the “Partner Pacer” which is a modified version of part of the fitness testing they will be participating in during the upper grades.
-Intro to kicking

This week we are in the full swing of fitness testing. 2nd grade through 5th grade will be participating in the Fitness Gram fitness test. For more information you can visit the fitness gram web site by clicking here. We came up with a new way to track data that will allow students to track their fitness growth from year to year. It is running smooth so far!

The younger grades will not be officially fitness testing. However, we will take them through a modified version of some of the tests and introduce some basic fitness concepts. For now, we will be sticking with some more kicking skills this week for the 1st grade and kindergarten classes. We focused on dribbling last week. This week we will be covering kicking for both short and long distances.

We're Just Kickin' it...

This week we are moving on to the last of our basic skills, kicking. As you can see on our blog, we have already covered: throwing, catching, and striking. The students are doing a great job with these skills. Mrs. Lawson and I have seen great progress throughout this skills review. We hope to see the same hard work through our kicking section of the unit as well.

We will be covering short distance kicks, long distance kicks, punts, and we’ll probably even break out the football tees! Our plan is to offer students (who are old enough) a chance to compete in the NFL’s Punt, Pass & Kick competition. This is a great way for the students to put their skills to good use. More Skills Review (week 6 overall)

So, last week we squeezed in a ton of striking! The students all seemed to really enjoy it. The weather cooperated, and we were able to get outside for a few days. Ms. Patsy even got up on the roof and threw down all the tennis balls that found their way up there, I swear there must have been 40 of them!

This week we are planning on putting those throwing, catching, and striking skills to work. We are going to play some large group games that focus on those skills. Once the week is over we will hop right back into our skills review…kicking will be next up!

Just in case you are wondering the kindergarten and first graders are still working on throwing and catching. We like to get the younger students a little more work on the basic skills. So, while the older grade levels are spending one week on a skill, the K and 1 students will have 2 weeks! If you have a K or 1 student ask them how many different objects they have been throwing in PE!

Week 5 is Underway!!

Last week we were able to get some great throwing skills packed in. This week… it is time to move on to striking! We will be working on striking with various implements (bats, tennis racquets, hockey sticks, and paddles).

We started off yesterday with our stations. It went great. The best part of it is the weather! It is actually cooling down enough for us to get outside! We are still keeping an eye on the heat index, but yesterday went very smooth. The rotations we are using get the students out for about a 10 minute period. Then they are right back in the air-conditioning working in the gym!

A few of the GPS’s that we will be covering this week are:

Week 4 Begins!

I hope everyone had a great long weekend! This week we are starting our first official unit. We are starting with our basic skills review! Our skills review is made up of 3 components:

-Throwing and catching
-Striking
-Kicking

We will be looking at each of these topics in depth over the next few weeks. Each week will be focused on a skill. For example, this week we have started reviewing throwing and catching. Ask your child if they can remember the key points for both the over hand and under hand throw? Now see if they can remember the keys to catching!

Here are just a few of the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS’s) we will be covering this week:

What a crazy end to the week!

If you dropped of your child this morning you saw it…4 fire trucks, the fire chief’s SUV, and a cop car or two. I just wanted to throw up a quick post to update you all on the events of this morning.

A few minutes before busses started to arrive this morning a small amount of smoke was spotted in one of the classrooms. The fire department was called immediately, and was here in no time flat! As it turned out, there was a malfunction in one of the air conditioning units on the roof. A motor in one of the units burned out, and produced the smoke that was spotted. The fireman checked, double checked, and triple checked the building. Once they determined it was safe the students were brought back in, and headed off to their classrooms. From then on out…it was school as usual!

Thanks for being so cooperative and supportive while dropping of your child. It sure is nice to have such an understanding group of parents!

Week 3 Update!

This week we will continue to introduce a couple more of our large group games. These are games we may use on a fun Friday or on a rainy day. The students love playing these games! As the students are playing they are actually covering many of our Georgia Performance Standards (GPS’s) for physical education.

Here are just a few of the standards (for 3-5) we cover through large group games:

Is your child ready for PE??

I have bus duty every morning at Davis. I stand outside with my trusty clipboard and check the buses in. Sounds like fun huh? Well can I just tell you…it's really one of the most enjoyable parts of the day! I get to see the students right when they hit the ground at school.

Some of the children still look dead asleep. Their eyes barely open. Their hair disheveled because they got up to late to brush it…or they just don’t care. They pull their neat little rolling book bags (some really cool ones have lights on them), and they make their way to their class.

But then, I get the student who jumps off that last step of the bus, comes right up to me and blurts out, “I have PE today, Coach Jones!! I’ll see you there!!” I love this enthusiasm for Phys Ed! It is truly awesome!

Parents, I just have one small request!!

Please check your child’s schedule, and find out what day they have PE. Once you get their schedule…please….help us make sure they wear the appropriate shoes to school on their Physical Education days.

I know it has been as hot as the Sahara Desert lately, but we are seeing way too many flip-flops, crocs, and sandals. These types of shoes are not appropriate for Phys Ed. Please follow our guidelines for what makes a “good” PE shoe:

1- the shoe should completely cover the toes
2- the shoe should have a soft (rubber) sole
3- the shoe should have a full heel

We would really prefer a lace-up athletic shoe.

Week 2...

Well, the first week is gone! I think it went very well! Every class has been divided into squads, and all of the 2-5 students have learned our warm-ups. We even had time for a little game called- "Everybody's it Tag."

Here is what is on the schedule for this week:
Grades 2-5
o Review warm up walls
o Introduce partner pacer (this will tie into our fitness unit, which will be coming soon)
o Introduce large group/rainy day activities that we may be using periodically throughout the year
K & 1
o Remembering our squad colors and routines

How hot is too hot?!?

Before you go running around outside be sure you know what you are getting into. We will most likely be staying inside a little more than we want to in PE! Hopefully this heat wave will break soon!!

First day of School!!

WELCOME BACK!!

This week we are beginning by reviewing PE protocol. We will be making sure each student has been introduced to the following:

-Physical Education Class Rules
-The Bug Rules (what to do if another student is bugging you)
-Safety Drills:
Fire Drill
Duck and Cover Drill
Code Red Drill
-Introduction to basic playground rules

After we have completed all the safety guidelines we will jump right into our squads. At Davis we divide each classroom class into four squads. Your child will be in one of the four following squads- East, West, North, or South. The squads will be set for the entire school year. They enable us to move more quickly from instruction to activity, and they allow us to divide the children up quickly for skills work or large group games. Ask your student what squad they are in!

As soon as the squads are set we introduce the students to our warm ups! Everyday your child comes to PE they will take the first 4 to 5 minutes and run through a quick fitness warm up. We have four categories to focus on during warm-ups: muscular strength, flexibility, cardiovascular fitness, and speed & agility! The warm ups will be changed every 6- 8 weeks, but we will always focus the warm-ups on our four fitness categories!

Once the squads and warm-ups are set we are ready to get some serious physical activity in! We will be starting this year by introducing/reviewing some of our large group activities! These are games and activities that we might use on a fun Friday or a rainy day.

Dear Davis Parents,

Mr. Jones, Mrs. Lawson, and Mrs. Georges are looking forward to another great school year. We are always looking for new ideas and ways to improve our Physical Education Program. Our program will include movement skills, rhythm, dance, games, and physical fitness, as well as traditional sports. We want to offer your child the best Physical Education possible.

We want to have a way to communicate with you better this year and have created a BLOG for Davis Physical Education. http://davisphysed.blogspot.com We will keep the site updated with current Health and Physical Education information for you and your children.

We expect all students to participate on a regular basis. We also expect students to wear athletic shoes for their safety. It is suggested that girls wear shorts under dresses on those days they wear a dress to Physical Education. Your child’s grade will be determined by his or her behavior and willingness to participate. The results of our fitness tests will not hurt your child’s grade in Physical Education. If your child is ill and unable to participate in P.E., please send a note. If your child has a serous illness or injury and cannot participate for an extended period of time, please send a doctor’s note.

The first two weeks of school, we will be collecting old athletic shoes for the NIKE Reuse-a-Shoe program. This recycling program takes the old shoes and grinds them up to make playground surfaces for underprivileged schools. For more information, check out www.nikereuseashoe.com. The shoes can’t have any metal in them. Please drop them off in the gym. Recycling is a small way to help our community, but everything we do can make a difference. We look forward to meeting new students and parents. We will continue to teach your children a variety of FUN fitness activities. We want your children to LOVE going to gym and expect a fabulous school year.
