Guest Teacher!

This year we have dubbed Fridays in PE "Fitness Fridays." It works out great. Fridays are a rotational day for all the specials- this means every Friday is a different class.

This Fitness Friday we had a wonderful visit from Mrs. Bobby Bourne. Mrs. Bourne is an aerobics instructor at Cosmos Fitness on Sandy Plains Rd. She has been instructing classes for 30+ years. She spent the day with us today taking each class through one of her many aerobics routines. The kids had a blast. She had all the students from Kindergarten through 5th grade engaged and involved.

Thank you Bobby for coming out!! Looking forward to your next visit, and I know the kids are too!!

The Davis Art Show!!

Mark your calendars now for our annual Davis ES Night of the Arts! Stop by the gym between 5:30 and 8:00 Tuesday night to see your child's favorite piece of artwork framed and proudly displayed. Love the frame? Think it would look great hanging in your home? Really love not having to take your child's amazing work of art to an expensive framing shop to preserve it forever? Great news! You can purchase the frame and take it home that night! The cost of $25 includes a small donation that will be used to buy equipment and supplies for the art room to benefit your children during all their years at Davis. So plan to bring your checkbook! Yes, we'll take cash too! Please note: We are unable to take charge cards. Artwork in unpurchased frames will be returned to students at a later date.

And . . . be prepared to be dazzled by our musical entertainment at the Night of the Arts as well! We are excited to announce that our talented Davis Chorus will present a spectacular performance in the Cafeteria as a part of the Night of the Arts. The Chorus will perform immediately following a brief PTA meeting at 6:30 P.M. The chorus program, entitled “Music Through the Ages” will feature music from Bach to Justin Bieber. Don’t miss the singing and dancing extravaganza featuring our fourth and fifth grade chorus students!

Please mark your calendars for March 13 and plan now to attend this evening of celebration to support the arts at Davis!

Read Across America

So this past week we had an awesome assembly in the gym celebrating Read Across America. We even made a giant cake. Take a look at one of the ingredients:

Yup, that sure was a mess to clean up, but the students sure had a blast watching all that stuff getting dumped on me!!

1st Month of 2012.....check!!

February already? Well we’ve been pretty busy. We tackled our juggling unit for the K-2nd grades. We really work a lot on 2 scarf patterns (using scarves instead of bean bags). A few of the 2nd graders were able to get some true 3 scarf patterns going. It was a lot of fun to see!

We also got to squeeze in a couple weeks of jump rope. We have quite a few great jumpers and we still have a few that are so very close.

For the 3-5th grades- We are wrapping up our basketball unit. We got to go through many of the basic skills and even got a chance to put our skills into action in some modified games. I’ve been very impressed with the way these 3rd-5th graders have been working together. It’s really great to see!!

On a different note, please read below:

The Fire Marshall has begun writing Fire Lane parking violations on school parking. A number of people have already received citations. The Fire Marshall will continue writing these citations throughout the county this school year. Please remind parents/staff that if they park in a fire lane (a curb that is painted red) they risk being ticketed.
